Team Management Activity and Reflection
Management is an important element to any organization, and it plays an instrumental
role in driving success and in ensuring the achievement of organizational goals and objectives.
Often, management is identified as a dynamic process that encompasses a variety of elements
and activities. Although the functions of managers might be the same depending on the type of
business, the management process different managers apply may differ significantly. Essentially,
the management process chosen is often dependent upon the type of the organization, the
individual manager, and/or the organizational objectives.
Planning
The managerial function of planning involves coming up with a detailed plan
encompassing a strategic and practical approach to achieving specific organizational goals and
objectives. Here, it is important to focus on building an effective team capable of pursuing and
attaining the set goals and objectives. This process is often challenging than most people
perceive especially when it comes to working with new but existing employees. This is the exact
case the manager faces considering the new plant employs 100 people who are most probably
new to the manager. Certainly, weaving them into the perfect team might be challenging but it is
possible.
Therefore, the first step should entail establishing my leadership position to each team
member. This is usually a delicate step and needs to be approached carefully if a successful and
effective team is to be created. According to Berkeley (n.d.), it is significantly important for
managers to build relationships with their team based on trust and loyalty rather than basing the
interaction on fear and/or power attributed to the managerial position. For this reason, I believe I
