PERSONAL COUNSELING THEORY 2
Abstract
Entailed in this work is an examination of two counseling theories, i.e., cognitive behavioral
therapy (CBT) and person-centered therapy (PCT). This work will discuss measures that bring
about meaningful change in clients for both PCT and CBT and describe the main treatment
strategies that facilitate successful therapy outcomes. It will highlight factors that influence
distress on the part of the client, including family cultural systems, emotions, actions,
backgrounds, thoughts, and sensations. Although the majority of this work will center on PCT
and CBT, empirical views regarding PCT and CBT, and the ability of PCT and CBT to include
strengths and weaknesses, it will also examine the Christian perspective regarding therapy and
discuss the benefits of PCT and CBT.
