DISCUSSION 2
Theology
Insight
According to Ratzinger (1995), the major consequence of suppressing sin and guilt is that
it prevents people from being healthy. Suppressing guilt and sin makes people willing, ready,
and able to demean other people and point out their guilt in the event that they suffer misfortune,
and a need to change the world through violence. The Holy Spirit wants to convince people of
sin to lead them to the truth so that they can obtain healing. The bible defines temptation as a
trail where a person can be faithful or unfaithful to God. The secondary definition is the
seduction or allurement to commit sin.
Question
Temptation starts when people choose to live righteous lives and follow God’s teaching.
It occurs to derail them from the path. It ends in God as He does not suffer from temptation.
Ratzinger state that the very essence of sin is a renunciation of the truth. Jesus reverses Adam’s
route in the way that He becomes a servant, in that he becomes dependent. He becomes the new
Adam as from him; people find the truth and eternal life.
