BORDER SECURITY 2
Security is essential for the smooth running of a country. The USA has three sections of
the borderline security which are maritime, security of the land border and the maritime. Each is
faced by various threats, for instance, maritime security faces the threat of terrorist penetration
and the passage of illegal weapons (Bakir, 2016). They also face the threat of explosions from
LPG terminals that are kept at the seaports due to interference from outside parties. Security
breaches and insufficient background checks leave the ports vulnerable to attacks.
The land borders face the problem of illegal entry, besides the much efforts to curb the
aliens from entering the country. Ports of entries make the borders more vulnerable to illegal
migration. Some of these who cross are terrorists and end up compromising the security of the
states. Aviation security is still struggling to perfect passenger screening, perimeter security, and
how to secure airports better. America can secure its land border by closing all ports of entry in
order to discourage entry of illegal cargo and criminals (Bakir, 2016). It should also allocate
more resources to each component to enhance its performance. For instance, it can improve
intelligence levels across the three types of borders. This way, threats and risks to security will
be detected and handled before it causes significant damage.
