MONROE’S MOTIVATED SEQUENCE
I. ATTENTION STEP
ATTENTION: Fictional events are shown. Parenting may have both beneficial and bad
consequences on children, which will be explored throughout the story's storyline.
CREDIBILITY (if possible, tell a personal story here): Because they had been warned not to
"be impolite to their parents," the children's lack of feelings and desires was evident. It is a
kind of abuse to make a parent emotionally illiterate in front of their child. A repeated spiral
occurs as a result of this.
SIGNIFICANCE/RELEVANCE (tell the audience why they should care): As the number of
children reared as emotionally immature grows, so does the quality of our daily lives and our
surroundings. For example, men and women who are emotionally aloof from their children or
who have not learnt to interact and reciprocate with their children may face misogynist
treatment, sexism, and bullying. People who are healthier and happier as a result of a kid and
parent having an informed and meaningful dialogue are potential results.
THESIS/STATEMENT OF CLAIM (1-sentence statement of policy that you want your
audience to agree with): In order to break this pattern, we must act now. When parents and
children communicate openly and honestly about their wants and needs, it's called "assertive
parenting." This kind of parenting helps children grow up to be more healthy and happy
people.
PREVIEW (of the problems you will share in the Needs section): If we all cooperate
together, we can avoid sexual harassment and assault, two major issues in today's society.
Transition to explanation of the current problem(s): How often have you been addressed as
"cat"? StopStreetHarrassment.org, a website that provides data on sexual assault and rape,
partnered with GfK in June 2014 to perform a 2,000 person national survey in the United
States. According to the report, up to 65 percent of women had encountered some kind of
public harassment at some time. Women reported being sexually touched 23% of the time,
being followed 20% of the time, and being pressured into having sex 9% of the time.
