Week 2 journal: Expanding abroad: Motivations, Means, and Mentalities, Chapter 1
Part1
The central concept introduced by the journal is the concept of Multinational
Enterprises (MNEs), which are also commonly known as the Multinational Companies
(MNEs) (Bower et al. 2018). The chapter also offers two widely accepted definitions of
Multinational Companies. According to the chapter, there are huge differences between the
ordinary business operations and the Multinational Companies. The differences can be noted
through the motivations of the two enterprises. As identified from the definition of
Multinational Companies, such companies have networks of jointly or wholly ownership and
control over business operations such as production and marketing in various countries
worldwide. Therefore, Multinational Companies are characterized by significant
relationships, operations, and direct investments in foreign countries. The companies take
over trading operations in the countries and assume a significant or whole control of overall
business operations.
Another primary distinctive characteristic of Multinational Companies is that they
assume the active harmonized management over all the operations in all the foreign countries
involved. Besides, they manage the organizational and strategic integration of all the
activities located in different countries (Gorg et al. 2001,723-739).
The companies require effective management strategies to sustain their operations
worldwide. Multiple environments define their management with varied consumer needs,
channels, preferences, etc. It is also exposed to political risks and demands in different
countries.
The operations of the Multinational Companies are affected by various factors
represented in the following illustration.
