Communication and Collaboration Strategy
Effective communication and collaboration is a skill that one is not born with but has to
learn over time while growing up. Since all people learn at different levels and contain different
personalities the ability to be able to effectively communicate and collaborate within a team
environment is essential. For this very same reason one must learn to accept that which is
different and plan for success.
Some personality types that can help the success of a team are being organized, being a
giver, and being a thinker. Being organized is probably one of the most needed personalities that
a team needs in order to collaborate the best they can. The organization of assignments, keeping
all papers in order and organizing who needs to do what and when the assignments need to be
turned in are just a few of the tasks that an organizer will face. When it comes to communication
the organizer will set some ground rules for where, when and how often all team members
communicate.
The giver personality will allow one to communicate freely without any hesitations. By
communicating on a daily basis the rest of the team members will know how their part of the
assignment is coming along and if they will require any assistance. This also plays into the
collaboration that the team will need as well, collaborating by giving daily updates and asking if
anyone else might need help with their portion of the assignment.
The last personality that is good to have is the thinker personality. By being able to think
and do it clearly and critically the person will be able to collaborate with their team members by
helping out where help is needed as well as reminding team members when items are due. The
communication for the thinker will be on a daily basis by communicating progress and posting
helpful hints for the other team members.
