Dear Manager,
I am writing this email to inform you of the staffing assignment. Due to short staffing in the
organization, I have assigned the shifts to the registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs),
and the nursing assistants based on client acuity levels. Every registered nurse was assigned 15 acuity
levels except registered nurse four, whose total acuity is 17. The employees were assigned total acuity
levels ranging from 15 to 18 to ensure they do not feel overwhelmed by an imbalance of task volumes.
This will ensure standardized care delivery and unit processes to promote client satisfaction.
I will use both written communication and a staff meeting to communicate with the employees.
First, I will email the employees with the shift assignment table attached and communicate the meeting
schedule. During the meeting, I will ask the members to work according to their job requirements and
ensure collaboration with other staff members handling the same patient. Additionally, I will ensure that
quality care is provided to the patients according to the severity of their illnesses. Registered nurses will
attend to the patients suspected to have complicated situations according to the recorded vital
information. The nurses will check the vitals of every patient to identify those that require emergency
level attention.
The assignment is essential to enhance communication among the healthcare staff. The
assignment sheet will help the staff members to identify the patients they are required to serve
throughout the shift. This will ensure that no patient is left unattended, thus ensuring equity and patient
satisfaction. Also, the staff members will identify the newly admitted patients in their shifts and other
details to gain information on the expected care. Due to shortages of nurses in the organization, the
assignment will reduce errors and mortality rates related to inadequate care to the clients.
As a nursing leader, I applied my ability to communicate effectively, ensuring that the
employees understand the assignment requirements and develop a working plan to deliver desirable
outcomes. I used the staffing assignment tool to overcome the short staffing in the institution while
ensuring provision of quality services to the patients. The decision was based on critical thinking and
dedication to excellence to improve the performance and lead the nurses to deliver top-notch services
to the patients.
