Week 1 DQ 1
Due Week 1 Day 2
Discuss the relationship that exists among the different developmental domains. I would
like the entire class to identify the three key development domains and the relationships
that exist among them. Please post a response to this message.
Characteristics of development include multidirectional, multicontextual, multicultural,
multidisciplinary, and plastic. Development can be further broken down into three primary
domains, which includes cognitive, biosocial, and psychosocial (Berger, 2008). These primary
developmental domains are closely interrelated. Cognitive development includes all aspects of
learning, memory functioning, and decision making processes. Psychosocial development
involves emotional characteristics as well as social functions within society. Lastly, biosocial
development consists of biological aspects of human development such as bodily functions and
growth (Berger, 2008).
Many aspects of human development span across all three domains in some way. The
development of a human being is diverse and unique, which is why all three of the domains
come into play when it comes to typical human development. All three domains are equally
important when it comes to proper functioning, whether physical or mental. These primary
domains of human development were broken into three categories to make it easier for
psychologists and scientists to study the various aspects that affect human development. While
some human developments span all three domains, it is helpful to break down the different
characteristics by examining the role of biological, cognitive, and psychosocial factors.
