DATA ANALYSIS IN E-HEALTHCARE
Data Analysis in e-Healthcare
Data mining refers to a combination of methods that are applied to large databases with a
bid to establish patterns that are hidden in the database. These methods include tools, theories
and methodologies that help to identify the patterns in the data. In big data analytics, data,
mining is used in data analysis.
In e-healthcare, data analysis is very important. Data analysis entails identifying patterns,
anomalies and correlations within a data set with the aim of helping to predict outcomes in the
provision of healthcare services (Hand & Adams, 2014). The application of big data analytics in
the e-healthcare industry has life changing benefits.
The patterns, anomalies and correlations identified through data mining are used to
improve the healthcare services provided. This is done by applying this information to improve
customers relationships, reduce operational costs for the hospital, increase profit and revenue
generated by the hospital and improve the performance of the hospital among many other
functions. Data analysis also entails the analysis of raw data in order to gather valuable
information from it.
There are various challenges associated with data analysis in the e-healthcare industry.
The first challenge is security of the data and information gathered form the data analysis in big
data analytics. In healthcare provision, patient information and history should be kept
confidential (Pisoni, 2019). However, with big data analytics, the database used is prone to
attacks from cyber-criminals. When this information is leaked, it ruins the trust between
healthcare providers and patients since confidentiality of patient information is broken.
