SOFTWARE TESTING FRAMEWORK 2
Automated software testing framework
A framework is an arrangement of guidelines and best practices that an organization could
systematically use to achieve desired results. A software testing framework is a set of rules and
guidelines used to create and design test cases that enhance a testing team's speed and accuracy.
These guidelines can be the form of coding, critical data handling processes, or procedures for
accessing external data sources. Testers are not obliged to follow these rules and guidelines strictly.
However, continuous usage of the testing frameworks has additional benefits.
Test frameworks are essential to an efficient automated testing process because they improve the
testing team's testing speed and efficiency. The testing team is also able to conduct maximum test
coverage on the case being handled and experience minimal intervention. Utilizing a framework
for automated testing reduces the test maintenance cost and the risks of not re-using previous codes
in future cases (Catelani et al., 2011). The testing frameworks also lessen the need for human
resources to conduct manual tests on subjects and cases.
There are six test automation frameworks, each with their different characteristics and
attributes, to design a test plan. The linear automation framework, also known as the record and
playback framework, is a type of framework used to conduct tests on small applications. This is
one of the fastest ways of generating a test script. It involves creating and executing the test script
manually and individually on each test case (Catelani et al., 2011). The workflow is easy to
understand since the test scripts are arranged in sequential order but are not re-usable in multiple
test cases because they are hardcoded on the test scripts.
The Modular testing framework involves testers breaking the application into smaller, multiple
independent modules with each module tested in isolation. The testers create test scripts for each
