Experiment Fisher Esterification In this reaction, the organic reactant will be an unknown and the goal of the experiment is to perform the reaction and then characterize the product in order to determine the identity of the product which will lead you to the identity of the unknown reactant. Refer to your McMurray textbook 9th edition to read about the Fischer Esterification reaction (Chapter 21-6). You will be assigned an unknown alcohol (Table 1), and will synthesize its corresponding acetate ester via Fischer esterification. The product is purified by extraction (liquidliquid extraction), and then identified by 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The identity of the unknown alcohol will then be inferred from the structure of the ester.
