PHOTOGRAPHY 2
A photograph which is also a work of art is a picture captured using a camera to keep the
photograph as memory or to use it later to convey a message. There are professional and casual
photographers around the world. Some have been recognized globally for their exemplary
captions that have caught the attention of the world or particular people. The photograph selected
from straight photography is necessary for explaining what it means to take a perfect photograph.
The image is completely flawed, an indication of little experience or lack of attention when
taking the photograph. From how the background portrait is placed to the quality of the image as
well as lighting causes a person to take a further look to determine what exactly was required of
the photographer to obtain a quality image. The image has an amazing background framed
painting bearing some dark themes. This photograph by Tina Barney was taken long ago when
there was little advancement in camera quality as compared to modern photography that has used
very sophisticated cameras and has involved photo editing.
This photograph bears the basic quality of a work of art in that, it bears some pictures that
represent a moment and have a strong message, captured in the painting used as the background
display. However, the image bears very many flaws as a work of art, making it less quality and
blurring the message it might have intended to communicate. George Eastman once said,
“Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and
you will know the key to photography” (Aljahdali 2016). The image lacks adequate lighting as
the light used was hard casting shadows on the faces of the two people and also could not light
the photograph to capture attention. If soft light had been used, the eyes of the two people should
be visible, with the main curves of their faces being visible, and the background would be
separated from the people. Light illuminates boundaries and thus, a viewer should quickly
identify the people and the frame.
