RESEARCH PAPER 2
Ford: An Auto Company in Transition
Ford is an American vehicle manufacturing company based in Dearborn, Michigan. The
company was started on 16
th
June 1903by Henry Ford, whose key operations included designing
activities, manufacturing, marketing and financing, and servicing cars, SUVs, trucks, and luxury
automobiles. They manufacture and distribute vehicles under the brands of Ford and Lincoln
across six continents worldwide. They operate in north and south America, Africa, Europe Asia,
the Middle East, and the pacific (Dess, 2013). Their future goal is to provide trusted automobiles
that will help improve people's lives by reducing congestion and limiting accidents and
pollutions through emissions. The company is heavily investing in technology to achieve these
goals and transform its future. Ford recently partnered with the Chinese company to develop
electric vehicles and partner with companies like Walmart, Domino's, and Ly ft to build self-
driving cars.
Issues
Recently, the company reported earnings that were short of what the investors expected.
They blamed the unimaginative performance on troubled markets and the costs incurred in
restructuring. They have been experiencing difficulties in South America, China, and Europe,
which made the executives invest a lot of time improving the company's earnings in these areas.
Dealer Profitability
Over the years, maintaining dealership profits has been a major problem for ford
company, especially in China's competitive market. As a result, the company opted to put some
measures to address this problem. Since the company decided to focus on improving dealership
profits, a third of its dealers in China have become more profitable than before, which is a good
sign in its growth in market share.
