Chapter 11 Discussion
I believe the decision-making process model is complimentary of one another. Rational
decision-making follows a clear process, beginning with problem identification and ending with
implementation and evaluation (Kinicki & Fugate, 2020). There is consistency, meaning an
organization uses a similar approach every time a new problem pops up. The use of intuition
does not require a clear process. Instead, the decision-maker uses expertise and feelings to
decide. It is quick, meaning it is suitable for use when a problem demands a quick fix. Although
they seem different, I believe they both play a crucial role in effective decision-making. For
instance, an individual can use a hunch to generate alternative solutions within the rational
decision-making model. An intuitive manager may also use some objectivity to move something
from being a hunch to something tangible and worthwhile. Although decision-making requires
objectivity, intuitions can be the difference between a good and an excellent manager (Tonetto &
Tamminen, 2015).
