1. How did Kern utilize the four zones of social media marketing?
The zones of social media available were Youtube, Twitter, the community and
Facebook. Kern created photos and videos for the company’s Youtube channel, Facebook and
Twitter handles, sharing the Gnome experiment to thousands of individual scientists in different
parts of the world. Also, Kern designed a website, www.gnomeexperiment.com, which featured
the Gnome experiment. In this website, guests got information on in what ways the Earths
gravity would differ dependent on one’s location in the universe hence the gnome weigh would
vary moderately high or less. In this case, only the scales by Kern were advanced enough to
measure gravity accurately and efficiently (Shugarrt, 2013). This raised interest to many
scientists hence marketing his precision scales. Social media news conveyed to international
media leading masses to the gnome experiment. The community was used to Youtube and
Facebook hence they also got informed.
2. How did Kern create an experience worthy of participation and sharing?
Through the website, www.gnomeexperiment.com, guests were asked to weigh gnome
using Kern scales, where they were required to collect data, fill it on the website, create a video
and then upload it to the organizations Youtube channel. Travel kits were sent to various
participants such as in Switzerland, Canada, South Africa, The United States and The United
Kingdom (Shugarrt, 2013). Gnome travel snaps and facts on gravity spread across traditional and
social media. This established a global discussion on the Gnome experiment and its relevance in
the measurements of gravity differences. As a result, a large number of scientists and local
residents in different parts of the world got informed. They all had a chance in participating in
the activities and campaigns through a variety of social media platforms and science forums
available.

3. Was the campaign target well? Did it anticipate the likely motives and behaviors of
the target audience?
The campaign’s target was to spread knowledge globally to science platforms on the
gnome experiment making it easy for them to measure gravity in different parts of the world
within a short period of time. This action would therefore assist in verifying the fact that gravity
varies from place to place hence affecting weight. The campaign did anticipate the motives of the
target audience as a lot of people, not only scientists participated in the experiment. The
experiment managed 52,425 views within the same week (Shugarrt, 2013). In the second week,
the campaign had spread to over 152 countries. Kern’s story was added in school’s curriculum
globally. Millions of people learned about gravity, hundreds of thousands shared the content
while thousands participated. The participants ranged from internationally highly acclaimed
scientists to mere school children. The campaign took Kern’s experiment from scientific
laboratories, to schools, and to daily people’s lives.
4. What else could Kern do?
To reach even more audience, Kern could have published magazines and distributed them
in order to access individuals who had not yet gone digital. Also, he would have published books
and stocked them in local and international libraries. These would eliminate bias and involve a
larger crowd. Moreover, he would have created a radio channel which would teach on gravity
change and the gnome experiment to visually impaired persons and the elderly. Through music
and entertainment, Kern could have designed plays that emphasized on weight changing from
one region to another due to the difference in gravity. All this could have played a significant
role in educating more people.
