fraternity enabled it to trigger the right attention and inspire action towards eradicating human
trafficking , it is marred by drawbacks that the more elaborate workers' right framing strategy
helps address
The slavery framework was used to draw wider public attention to the human trafficking
issue in various ways. First, it was used to position the human trafficking issue within the scope
of the U.S. government’s war against slavery. Notably, slavery is an emotive topic in the U.S.
due to the nation’s historical association with the vice (Chuang, 2014). Any mention of the term
slavery is a sure way to gain public attention in the U.S. Also, the nation has dedicated
considerable attention and resources to demonstrate its commitment to fully abolishing slavery.
Therefore, the conflation of human trafficking to slavery gave the subject access to considerable
attention and resources and magnified it to a key federal agenda.
Secondly, the support of the framework by key global leaders enabled it to gain global
attention. Notably, leaders like Bill Gates and Richard Branson hold global influence, and hence,
any issue raised by them is bound to gain significant global publicity and visibility. They
highlighted human trafficking as modern-day slavery that required eradication and pledged
