Question 1
Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment are particular events in world history that gave
birth to the modern world of science today. Both challenged orthodox Christian principles,
Catholic beliefs and priests and reason constituted the ultimate authority (Parsa, 2016).
First, the scientific revolution arose post-Renaissance, whereas Enlightenment followed the
revolution. Enlightenment thinkers emphasized the rational faculty in man, freedom, and thus a
reason based outlook to any means of knowledge. Secondly, scientists and physicians right from
Copernicus to Newton restricted our understanding of the physical world by challenging
traditional conceptions in the field of biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
Enlightenment covered a larger corpus, including philosophy, history, politics, sociology, arts,
and law. Thirdly, revolution aimed at re-engineering our understanding of the world.
Enlightenment focused on the human and the self and encouraged man to be a rule setter for his
life. Fourthly, it gave rise to a new world of modern science and technology. It marked the
beginning of fields like Hermeneutics, aesthetics and provided a new look to religion (Parsa,
2016).
Deism represents religious beliefs that talk about man and God relation, God and the
natural world, and similar theologies. This was attacked in the time of Enlightenment, backed up
by reason, freedom, order, and logic that man has to apply to understand the world. Thomas
Paine, Ethane Allen, Elihu Palmer guided the enlightenment movement forward against deism.
Kant called the church authorities Spiritual guardians who merely mug up the text and depend on
Jesus's doctrines. Only a few with cultivated minds make use of their freedom and implement the
same in society. This further led to the rise of Hermeneutics and Romanticism. Historical
