Evaluation of an Organization’s Crowdsourcing Campaign
Crowdsourcing is the practice of obtaining information, peoples perspectives, work and
input on certain matters by enlisting the aid of a large pool of people. The practice is done over
the internet; on social media platforms, on websites as well as mobile phone apps (Hetmank,
2013). The crowdsourcing tool has proved a powerful tool as it enables tasks that were
traditionally carried out by a small group of employees to be done by a large number of people in
a more efficient manner.
Crowdsourcing is done by way of filling surveys, questionnaires and online submission
forms among other means. The information gathered from crowdsourcing is put to varying uses,
depending on the organization’s needs. The information could be used to form knowledge
databases on certain things, to gauge the people’s perception on ideas or to gain awareness on
people’s attitude towards certain products and services (Hetmank, 2013). This information is
useful to organization in that it enables them to make strategic and informed decisions when it
comes to their products and the services they offer.
Crowdsourcing’s efficacy springs from the fact that the mechanism collects diverse
information from a properly distributed pool of people. This process usually takes a short period
of time. In addition, it is cost effective hence does not impose an unbearable financial burden on
companies. Organizations use the mainstream crowdsourcing platforms like Innocentive and
Amazon Turk to carry out crowdsourcing (Hetmank, 2013). Some organizations have taken to
developing their own crowdsourcing systems (CSS). This has proven a risky and costly
undertaking that requires the involvement of professionals and specialists. In addition,
crowdsourcing is heavily influenced by the cultures of the participants it utilizes. Culture is the
norms that that a class of people have deemed as acceptable. Culture dictates people’s behavior
