CONGRESS BILL 2
The bill – Stoppage of violence against women and subsequent discriminative activities
against women irrespective of age
Violence against the female gender has been in continuance for quite some time now.
There have been many movements since the 8
th
century whose objectives have been seeing to it
that women are shielded from violence and discrimination. As it is known to everyone, the
female gender is weaker compared to the male gender. Despite knowledge about this by a
majority of men on the delicate nature of women, they still engage in activities that discriminate
women and make them undergo physical and psychological trauma and suffering (Jacqui, 2012).
There have been cases of violence against women in the global scene and arena. In some
occasions that have been quoted in the media, in some Asian country, women and small girls are
raped and hang by their rapists. This indicates the great need of enhancing protecting women
against violence and more importantly, it indicates that women are indeed highly vulnerable
individuals and drastic steps ought to be taken towards protecting women from violence.
Enhanced protection of women can be achieved through stringent legislations that will curb and
reduce cases of violence against women in the society (Spieler, 2011).
The relevance of the bill in handling and tackling the issue of protecting women from

despite the great awareness the society has on the issue. The bill is intended to enhance and
strengthen the position of the protection of the rights of women and key in the protection and

Legislations have been passed earlier on and movements that were aimed at protecting
women against discrimination have also been passed. Some of the legislations that have been
passed include the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act, and the Violence against
Women Act. On a majority of occasions, violence against women is committed at the family
level and this makes the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act an important legislation of
protecting women against violence in their families. According to this act;
Individuals who suffer or are victims of violence get funding from the federal
government and the funding towards the victims is also meant to assist the children of the
victims of violence. The prevention of family violence is an integral role played by this
legislation. There exists agencies whose role is to see to it that victims are properly protected
against violence and that those who suffer the violence get settlement to cater for their personal
needs as well as the needs of the siblings.
The legislation has provided for a hotline that operates on a 24hr basis. The hotline is
aimed at ensuring that all around the clock; women that suffer cases of domestic violence are
able to reach authorities as soon as possible and to prevent the escalation of cases of violence
against women. The call service is meant and intended at ensuring that victims of domestic
violence get any support they need and more importantly, to intervene in cases of women being
in danger of suffering or being victims of domestic violence.
The program also concentrates on educating the general public on the different ways that
domestic violence can be handled. Prevention of the occurrence of domestic violence is another
