TELEHEALTH AND SELF-MANAGEMENT SUPPORT 2
Telehealth and Self-Management Support
A.
Despite being considered the same thing, self-management support, and patient education
are different concepts. As discussed by Natureresaerch (2020), patients are exposed to either
therapeutic or preventive courses of information through patient education. As such, patients are
educated on their health status and the essence of altering lifestyles or behaviors, which are most
likely to affect their health negatively. By following the conditions given in patient education,
patients can either know how to address their diseases and conditions or prevent the occurrence
of diseases or conditions. On the other hand, self-management support is the support given to
patients to control the extent of their illnesses and conditions. For instance, a health practitioner
can correspond with a patient on the latter’s condition, recommend therapies, and drug
alternatives on a timely basis.
B.
In its release on self-management support, the World Health Organization relayed some
of the features associated with patients' self-support through discussing telehealth applications.
The applicable programs are developed with the patient's condition considered. There are
shareable goals between healthcare providers and patients. There are also educational materials
that guide the patients on the actions they are supposed to take through their treatment and
therapy courses. There are tens of telehealth applications. Each application is developed with
unique capabilities on aspects, such as the engagement between health practitioners and patients,
costing, and patient assessment mode. Some of the telehealth applications include Live Health
Online Mobile, Doctor on Demand, and Amwell: Doctor Visits 24/7 (Jewell, 2020).
