Research question
This article reviews whether self-regulation has the ability to accomplish the entire
adoption of quality governance by the International Sports Federation (IFS). It brings in a
paradigm on the foundation of compliance theory to contemplate the International Sports

Basic Indicators (KGP) and the Basic Universal Principles of Good Governance of the Olympic

Methodology
The author used two types of data sources. The formal records containing governance-
related guidelines were gathered via the websites of the International Olympics Committee (IOC)
and the Association of Summer Olympics International Federation (ASOIF); for example, the
institution that creates and manages the PGG and KGP. Also, interviews were conducted with
IOC and ASOLF administrators to complement and corroborate the data collected from the
documents. Interviewees were guaranteed of their confidentiality and therefore no respondents'
specifics were included.
