Seeking to control impression
We seek to control the impression that others have on us to influence the outside views of
ourselves. Goffman’s theory explains that the impression that people have towards us helps us in
constructing identity at backstage. We also seek to control the impression that others have on us
to maintain social relationships. Similarly, we can control this to learn the rules of interaction.
We try to control the impression that others have on us because of the desire for self-esteem; this
could be for instrumental motivation and gaining reward. The article outlines self-
aggrandizement; this happens when an individual wants to be glorified, but end up feeling guilty.
Men manage impression when taking part in girl hunt
Men tend to perform ritualistic behaviors before going out in preparation for girl hunt;
this way, they help each other to bolster their confidence. Men also attempt to control the
perception that others have towards them by looking more masculine and make others believe
that they are manlier when taking part in girl hunt. Similarly, men apply the team strategy to help
in influencing the perception that others have for them. They use appearance as a major tactic
