AMERICAN ATHEISTS 2
American Atheism
Reading through the book "American Atheism," several topics emerge. They include
civil religion regarded as ceremonial deism, religious segregation well portrayed by the
disregard for atheists in society, Christian nationalism, and most significantly, the topic of
religious freedom. More so, there appears to be a range of religiosity intolerance to religion
and atheism. The atheists portray a feeling of intolerance to religious communities. Intellect
atheists explain the concept of God's existence cannot be proven or disproven, and the
essence of his nature cannot get determined. The religious community argues that believing
in God leads to society's lack of moral values. It led to the stereotype that atheists are more
likely to start trouble. However, they counter this argument pointing out religious
communities kill and execute each other due to disparaging beliefs while none of the atheists
got executed. It implied that the groups accused them of appearing immoral while they
murdered each other because of their beliefs.
Atheists' historical points of view regard the development of a culture free of
subjection to a belief they did not consider. A famous atheist, William, wrote, "An atheist is
capable of flying a plane or guiding a ship to its designated port." It indicated that they could
orchestrate matters of the state. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison designed the
constitution, and according to atheists, they worked well to remove the idea of God from the
sovereign book. The atheists view the civil laws set to disregard their interests, especially the
blasphemy laws, that rebuked one from insulting Jesus, God, or the Holy Spirit. The pledge
also got incorporated in the public-school systems, compulsory for everyone to recite. They
argued that it violated the Fourteenth amendment's equal protection clause. It went on to an
extent where David Niose, the legal director, suggested that they are a suspect class and
required special treatment from the court.
