Social Media and Academic Performance
Abstract
The social media is growing each day at a fast rate. Almost everybody is part of it the day. The
youths are the most frequent users. It has enabled an easier communication between students, as
they are simple to use and overcomes the drawback created by distance. Moreover, it is seen as
an avenue of developing social skills and general knowledge. Facebook and Twitter are the most
used sites. They give the platform to communicate directly. Therefore, they have the potential of
influencing how an individual will make his or her decisions. It has both favorable and
disadvantageous impacts on the academic performance, given that a large percentage of students
use it. This paper will discuss the time they spent on the networks, effects it has on spelling,
grammar, and general learning. It ends with a conclusion that measures that reduce the time
devoted to social networks should be adopted.
