The new quality improvement programs chosen are total quality management strategic
approach and management by objectives operations strategy. Quality is an important aspect of
organizational success because it ensures both internal and external elements align themselves
with the set goals and objectives. To begin with, total quality management is a management
approach focused on customer satisfaction with aim to satisfy customers. One of its advantages
includes; improving the quality of services offered (Aggarwal et al, 2019). Total quality
management strategic approach embraces information to understand what customers need. In this
case, hospital management can assess patient feedback to recognize which areas to improve.
Secondly, this quality improvement program engages all departments within an organization to
achieve total quality. Departments within an organization can easily communicate their wants
when this program is embraced. Thirdly, Hamidi (2020) argues that this type of quality
improvement encourages hospital staff to embrace education and training to enhance health
promotion.
On the other hand, this quality improvement program has some disadvantages such as the
need to change the organization’s culture. Total quality management brings change within all
departments forcing employees to adapt to the new changes or risk being a liability. Secondly, in
the case of healthcare organizations, total quality management can be expensive in the sense that
change comes with various demands (Nicolaou & Kentas, 2017). These demands include
training employees how to handle the new strategies or measures put in place. Thirdly, this
strategy is time consuming and may require additional cost. Total quality management is long-
term in nature and is well done in phases for an organization to assess the progress (Nicolaou &
Kentas, 2017). As a result, this quality management program within the hospital may incur
financial burden and more time allocation.
