1. What experiences do you have interacting with individuals who have autism? What have
you noticed from these experiences, if anything?
a. I have interacted with people with autism and in my workplace. Some things I
have noticed is that each person with autism is different. No autistic person is the
same, like no person is the same. I have noticed that a person with autism may be
more hyper, they may be more/less emotional, they may be more aggressive, and
they may be more impulsive. The person that comes to mind when I think of
autism is a person who I went to school with. This person would frequently walk
the neighborhood at random times during the day/week. This person would say
“hello” to anyone walking by and would love to have a conversation with you.
This person was the most excited person on the state basketball bus and couldn’t
stop talking about the win. These experiences have helped me have a better
understanding of a person with autism.
2. What was one thing you learned about autism from the Ted Talk assigned for today?
a. Autism is not a single diagnosis; it is a spectrum of symptoms and can affect two
people very differently. 1 in 88 children will be diagnosed with autism and the
number of children diagnosed has raised every year. This is because more people
have been able to identify autism and we’re able to help more people. Chung
