Introduction
Covid-19 is one of the numerous viruses transmitted to humans and animals and has
significant potential in causing a broad spectrum of respiratory illnesses (Rab et al., 2020).
Since its outbreak, and the coronavirus has made its way to every part of the world. Scientists
and doctors in the world have tirelessly searched for remedies to combat the spread of this
virus advocating for vaccines and wearing face masks. With numerous tests done by the
researchers, masks have been recommended to be preventing the spread of the disease by
preventing contact between human respiratory systems and the virus (Eikenberry et al.,
2020). However, scientists' laboratory tests show that particles of 0.3 microns larger than the
virus' particles can penetrate through a face mask. This shows that larger particles than the
virus can pass through the mask and pose a risk of infection. This brings on the question of
whether wearing a face mask is effective or not.
Wearing Masks and the Control of Corona Virus
It is argued that wearing masks do not prevent anyone from inhaling smoke, and so
does the coronavirus as smoke particles are small. At the same time, the covid-19 virus is
smaller, with a diameter of about 0.125 microns (Zhu et al., 2020). Another article agrees to
the same, arguing that there is a penetration for a 0.3-micron particle through masks, which
proves that the coronavirus particle can well penetrate through the same mask and spread
(Willeke, 1992). According to these two agreeing statements, masks can not fully protect the
wearer from contracting coronavirus. As a mitigative measure, scientists advocate for face
masks, emphasizing medical masks for healthcare workers who are always in contact with
infected patients and homemade masks for the community, whose efficiency in preventing
