Introduction:
The rise in changes in technology has influenced the way many accountants do their job
especially during the COVID 19 virus period. It therefore becomes necessary to look at how
technology influences this profession. information technology has changed the way we collect,
process, store and convey data between accountants and business stakeholders. The use of
technology has turned into everyday use making it impossible to do accounting without engaging
IT. Basically, the premise and objective function of accounting has not changed. It remains
provision of data on performance by identifying, storing, processing, summarizing and report of
different events in the company. Currently, financial reporting problem has become very
complex and computerization helps given the it gives the right solution in time. This study looks
at the impacts of information technology on the work of accountants and the competencies
required by the accountants.
Information technology and accounting information system
Technology has significantly evolved and a lot has been adopted to the world of business.
Information technology refers to the whole business industry including the systems that integrate
the software and the hardware systems. Accounting information system refers to computerized
system used to perform accounting operations. the Softwares used in accounting automates the
conventional accounting books and paper ledgers. The companies can create and track the
records of their financial transactions.
