Response Two
It is essential to note that therapists are guided by a strict code of conduct that provides
instructions on how they should handle themselves and their profession. If the client and
therapist have mutual feelings towards each other, the therapist must remove him or herself from
the case. This is because emotions cloud judgment and can prevent the effective delivery of
quality healthcare to the patient (Hermann et al, 2006). It is essential to understand that as
humans, we are all susceptible to feelings, and no one is above this, including the therapist. As a
therapist, if I find myself in a situation where I am attracted to the client, I would take this matter
up with a superior. The superior will provide the correct course of action regarding to how the
case should be handled and whether the continuation of services could harm the patient or mess
with me as a therapist. I would then communicate with the client regarding the matter. One factor
emphasized in psychology is communication. I agree with your post on the importance of
addressing the client's feelings and understanding where they are originating from. In most cases,
these are usually coping mechanisms and not actual feelings. Understanding this helps inform on
the right course of action regarding the case.
