Abstract
Human services is an umbrella term used to describe a number of careers whose main aim is to
service human beings. The careers’ main aim is to provide people with services during trying
situations. The majority of jobs that fall under human services are well remunerated and are
accompanied with attractive perks. Mental health counselor, marriage and family therapist, and
school guidance counselor are the three human services careers that I would be interested in
pursuing. Mental health counselors help people to overcome mental and emotional challenges
and improve their mental health. On the other hand, marriage and family therapists provide
guidance to couples, families, and groups on how to deal with issues affecting their well-being.
School guidance counselors work directly and indirectly with students at school. All three
careers required a master’s degree and successful completion of state-administered certificate
exams to be licensed as a practitioner.
