Culture and Institutions
Culture is an organized way of reacting, thinking, and feeling acquired and mainly
transmitted by symbols comprising distinguishing achievements of a group of people. In a
managerial setting, culture is the authority system, degree of employee commitment and
involvement, and how people feel towards the organization (Lebrón, 2013). On the other hand,
an institution is a humanly formulated constraints that configure human interactions. Its formal
constraints are constitutions, rules, and laws while, the informal constraints are self-imposed
codes of conduct, norms of behavior, and convection (Alesina & Giuliano, 2013).
Institutions are perceived as informal and formal rules that influence and govern human
conduct towards society, economic, and political activities. Formal institutions affect human
conduct based on how the authority enforces and interprets regulations and laws. On the other
hand, informal institutions impact human conduct through how human conscience enforce shared
beliefs about unacceptable and acceptable behaviors. Institutions control collective human
actions, results of collaborations by liberating and constraining individual’s conduct.
Institutions also enable individuals to conduct in a way that promotes conflict or
corporation and influence how humans support the set policies. For example, the rule of driving
on a specific side of the road makes human behavior more predictable and minimizes conflicts
and mistakes as they act to adhere to the rule. Institutions also impact human behavior by setting
rules towards property rights, marriage, education, and currency that govern how they behave
towards these entities (Henrich, 2015).
Humans have set objectives and rules governed by wider cultural believes that govern
how they conduct. Cultural traits play a vital role in shaping human conduct. They can lead to
