Describe when is it appropriate to use a medical therapy to treat someone with a mental illness?
Medical therapy is added to treating a mental illness patient when they seem to develop
adverse symptoms or act abnormally. For instance, a mentally ill person may develop depression
by becoming 'too low,' lack sleep or oversleep a hence antidepressant will be administered.
Suppose the caregivers or psychiatrist notices the patient develop severe symptoms that cannot
be rectified by the therapy and seem s to affect the patient's everyday wellbeing. In that case,
they should seek the help of a medical practitioner or a physician who will administer the right
medication to the patient through a series of the examination (Fraser, 2009).
Describe how a combination of medical therapy and psychotherapy may be a preferred method
of treatment
The combination of medical therapy and psychotherapy is an effective treatment for a
mental health patient since both psychological and medical factors are put into the picture in
treating them. According to the stressvulnerability model, mental health patients can be affected
by environmental and physiological factors, including alcohol/drug use, physical activities,
coping skills, medical help, and stress. Medical therapy can diagnose these underlying
complication and provide medication for adverse symptoms while psychotherapy provide
psychological solutions. With such intervention, a patient will have a comfortable and speedy
recovery since all mental illness difficulties are dealt with consecutively (Anwar-McHenry, et al
2020).
