“Team Member from Hell”
Problem Statement
In any team, all the team members would go the extra mile to ensure that their project is
successful. However, in most of today’s teams, there are many roadblocks to failure, such as
toxic team members. In the “Team member from Hell,” the team's problem is the presence of a
toxic team member who fails to cooperate with the other team members towards the success of
their project. If this problem is ignored, personality conflicts are likely to occur, leading to failure
in the entire project. Using different strategies to consult with the toxic team members will be
useful in solving this problem.
Causes of the Problem
Attribution theory is a perfect theory in understanding the behaviors of human beings.
According to Malle and Korman (2017), the behaviors of human beings are never random. There
is always a cause for the action which the person has taken. To understand and attribute the
causes of these human behaviors, attribution theories were designed. There are three different

associate these observed behaviors with internal or external factors. Observer carefully decides
which were the affecting factors (Internal or External) for a particular behavior. The observer
should consider three different elements while perceiving the behaviors, including consistency,
distinctiveness, and consensus.
Among the major causes of toxic behaviors is individualism. This is because
individualistic behaviors do not allow individuals to learn from others and grow (Guenter, 2016).
Individualism can also lead to mistrust between workers, which leads to conflicts. Furthermore,
