The information that you will need for the discussion can be found in Case 13a, p. 48; Case 11,
p. 19; and Case 19, p. 132 of Thinking Critically About Ethical Issues. As in all cases for this
course, you must identify the parties and the moral issue(s) at stake. Then concentrate on
identifying the relationships among the individuals. What relations of care need to be maintained
or developed?
Case 13a- The parties involved in this case would be the married couple, their daughter. This is
completely morally wrong to shun their daughter to her sexually preference. Their daughter can’t
help who she has feeling for it just happens. I say bad parents they should love their daughter
like they always have just like before they found out she was a lesbian. (P.g. 244) Individualism
at the very least, an individual’s autonomy should not be something that any personal
relationship could affect or alter. What I take from that is Their daughter should not be judged
due to her sexual preference. (Raley 244)
Case 11- The parties involved in this case would be the married Couple, Their Daughter, the
courts and the foster parents. I understand the parents have the right to have their child back in
their lives but given the time span that went by I would say the Daughter is better off staying
with her foster family. In this case ethics does not support the law. In this case I think the
biological parents have a conditional moral duty to their daughter. They feel that they have to get
her back but at the same time if she is being well cared for then they should let her go, I know it
has to be hard on them because their daughter doesn’t even know them any more that is why she
is unwilling to go they could still be in her life just not as the parents anymore. (Raley 156)
