PREVENTIVE CARE 2
PREVENTIVE CARE
Prevention care in health is taken to mean the aspect of evading the ailment before it
commences. It can be defined as the plans; interventions are taken to avert the onset of a
pathogen causing disease or any other related health issue prior to the existence of the
undesirable health concern. The health of many individuals around the world has seemingly
improved over the last decades. Works of literature conclude that majority of these illnesses are
spontaneously alleviating in frequency (Ward & Hisley, 2015). However, the core reasons for
the increasing numbers of these illnesses remain unknown; formulating preventive measures then
becomes desirable to combat this menace. Public health has its target on preventing these
illnesses and diseases and promoting health instead of treating and diagnosing diseases.
Currently, there are only three types of prevention.
First and foremost, primary prevention is one of the main categories in the list of
prevention. Its primary focus is to prevent the onset of disease or any possible injury that may
occur. Practically, primary prevention is accomplished through averting from health risks or any
related hazard that may lead to any illness or injury. Or modification of unsafe behaviors or
unhealthy modes that cause the onset of disease or health-related injury. Besides, it can also be
achieved by alleviating the body’s resistance to conditions exposed to its cause (Healthy People,
2020). Secondary prevention primarily focuses on reducing the impression of a disease or any
injury that has already happened. It is achievable through detection and curing the disease to
slowly reduce its progression, thus formulating strategies to avert reoccurrence or reinjury.
Tertiary prevention primarily focuses on softening the impression of a continuing disease
that had lasting impacts. The above is achievable by helping individuals cope with complex
health issues and future injuries to improve their daily routines and quality of life and maybe
increase their life expectancy. However, there associated health risk factors in preventive
measures specifically meant for children and women. Ethnic disparities and racial concerns act
as a significant concern to many of these preventative measures. Another common factor is the
low-income background; many of these individuals lack enough funds to treat themselves
adequately in case of emergence of onset of any disease (Healthy People, 2020). Finally, this
particular group lacks health insurance coverage to get proper medication, and due to the same
reason, they fail to acquire the best medication plan.
