1. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects people from discrimination based on race, color,
sex, national origin, and religion. Affinity and resource groups are common for all of
these (except for religion) in organizations winning diversity awards. For example, only
10 percent of the 401 companies in the 2009 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies
competition have religious resource groups. Why do you think this is the case?
Diversity in the workplace can be considered an important trend in the business
environment that has been linked with various benefits. According to Kalish (2020), the
formation of affinity groups plays a significant role in promoting inclusivity in the workplaces,
facilitating employee retention, and increasing their satisfaction, commitment, and productivity.
Although various resource groups have been formed in different organizations, affinity groups
for religion are still uncommon even in the most diverse organizations. As indicated, I believe
this is the case because religion is a sensitive issue that involves individuals' personal beliefs that
are followed with great devotion. Besides, participating in religious competition might be
considered as mockery by some individuals who believe or conform to the rules set by that
group.
Apart from that, religion is sacred as opposed to other issues described in the Civil rights
Act of 1964. It is also worth noting that the majority of the individuals brought up in different
cultures, races or ethnicities have their religion, which they believe is true faith. Therefore, the
participation of religious resource groups in such competitions may be seen as an offense and
against the beliefs of the devotees, which reduces the turn up for the event. Besides, religion is
strengthened by the faith of the individuals believing that their religion holds the truth about life
and death. Thus, most individuals are unwilling to participate in activities that might interfere
