1. Where is the area or structure located?
There are four main lobes in the brain, and the Frontal Lobes are one of the main lobes of the
cerebral cortex and the largest of the lobes. It is located at the front region of the cerebral cortex,
in the anterior portion of the cerebral cortex, directly in the anterior of the to the parietal lobes
and superior to the temporal lobes.
2. What are its major functions?
The Frontal Lobes are one of the four main lobes of the cerebral cortex and it holds many
important functions to the brain including motor functions, higher order functions, planning
reasoning, judgement, impulse control, memory, language, and speech. The right lobe controls
the activity left side of the body and the left lobe controls the activity of the right side of the
body.
3. What techniques are used to view or measure it?
There are many techniques and methods of viewing and measuring the Frontal Lobes, these
techniques are known as Neuroimaging, it includes the use of various techniques to directly or
indirectly image the structure, function, or pharmacology of the brain. Neuroimaging include
Electroencephalography (EEG), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and Magnetic
Resonance Imaging (MRI).
4. What happens when it is damaged?
Damage to the Frontal Lobe can result in many difficulties and consequences such as loss of fine
motor function, speech and language processing difficulties, thinking difficulties, an inability to
comprehend humor, a lack of facial expression, and changes in personality. Damage to the
Frontal Lobe can also bring dementia, memory disorders, and lack of impulse control.
5. What other structures is it near?
The Frontal Lobes are located at the front region of the cerebral cortex, in the anterior portion of
the cerebral cortex, directly in the anterior of the to the parietal lobes and superior to the
temporal lobes.
