Georges, n.d.). The DSM-5 helps professionals also follow guidelines when it comes to
diagnosing a client. It helps with coding and understanding the illness and different symptoms
that comes along with the illness. It is an educational tool. When examining the DSM- cross-
cutting assessments. They are easy to measure, administer, score as well as to interpret,
electronic form of measurements is said to be the easiest. If one is using a pencil and paper to
measure, there is also a detailed set of instructions easy to read and understand with the
scoring and it comes with a summary sheet as well. The measurers are also online and free to

2. Define the following assessments and provide an example when each should be used:
Forensic assessment
Forensic assessments will be requested by the court system or by an attorney (Thomson,
2017). The reasoning for a forensic assessment would be to determine what the facts are
when an individual is being questioned in the legal matter, such as when an individual is in
court for a crime or in a lawsuit. The professional counselor or psychologist could be asked if
the client is or was legally insane at the time of the crime or if they are able to stand trial, if
they are mentally competent. In this case the professional therapist would not show any

Therapeutic assessment
Therapeutic assessment is when a client is needing to be treated for mental health issues
such as anxiety, an eating disorder, trauma-stress disorders, and the counselor will start by
