What are some of the major ethical issues in conducting research that impacts the
advanced registered nurse?
One of the major ethical issues in conducting research that impacts the advanced registered nurse
surrounds informed consent. When conducting a research, let’s say as a dialysis nurse, there is a
need to first notify the patients on what information may be got from them. That gives them a
chance to accept or decline the offer to ensure that they have the consent when a research is
done. However, at times the nurses may assume that the information they gather is for the benefit
of the patients and therefore at times will not consult the patients. It’s unethical to carry out a
research without notifying the patient regardless of the benefits they will get in the end. Respect
for patient`s privacy and confidentiality is another ethical issue whereby some nurses are not into
keeping the information a secret (Cha, 2018). Patient`s health information should not be
disclosed regardless of the situation at hand. It’s ethical to ensure that privacy is upheld at all
times. Dialysis nurses should be keen to share only the information with the patients and other
practitioners when attending to the patient and not any other time.
Discuss the role of the advanced registered nurse in advocating for patient safety and rights
in conducting research.
Nurses have a role to play in ensuring the patient`s safety and rights are upheld when conducting
a research. One of the ways that they can uphold the approach is to ensure they possess both
organizational and management skills. This ensures that they are keen to ensure that the research
process follows the right procedures and that the participants are respected. Remember that
patient`s information is crucial and should not be shared publicly (West, 2020). It’s the role of
the nurses therefore to ensure that the research process follows the right procedures.
