Cognitive disorders impair the cognitive function of individuals to a point where they
perform abnormally. Hannah, Balthazard, Waldman, Jennings, & Thatcher (2013) highlights that
impairments are encountered in neurological conditions such as stroke and Traumatic Brain
Injuries (TBI) identified in the rehabilitation process. Traumatic brain injury is a typical example
of a cognitive issue that affects the normal functioning of the brain. Individuals suffering from
this disorder are unable to form new memories or remember events that happened in the long-
term and short term. The ability to respond to stimuli is reduced while the time is taken to
recognize and manipulate information increases.
Cognitive disorders can occur due to causes such as metabolic disturbance and
neurodegenerative processes. Impairment is classified according to the area in which the brain
has been affected and whether the region damaged through an injury is diffuse or focal. Factors
such as sleep disorders, depression, thyroid dysfunction, co-morbid cognitive impairment can
result in cognitive deficits. Moreover, alcohol abuse, organic solvents exposure, HIV or sexually
transmitted disease infections, and abuse of recreational substances may accelerate cognitive
dysfunction, which ultimately causes Traumatic Brain injuries. TBI can easily be identified
through symptoms like nausea and headache. After the identification, various therapy
assessments should be conducted to ensure the safety of the patients.
Ensuring a healthy living environment for cognitively impaired patients vital to both
patients and the family. According to Hannah et al. (2013), therapy assessments are one of the
standard models used to assess the condition of a patient. Therapy involves rehabilitation of the
