Learning Disabilities And Language And Development Disorders
Learning disability is defined as reading and learning disability faced by an individual especially a
child. Approximately 15% of the world's population suffer from some or other kind of learning
disability (https://www.who.int/teams/noncommunicable-diseases/disability-and-
rehabilitation/world-report-on-disability). One of the probable causes of learning disability is lack
of brain development during a prenatal term. A serious learning disability may also be due to
brain injury caused by an accident. In this context, it can be believed that learning disability is
associated with a language development disorder. There are mainly 7 types of language
development disorder. They are dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, auditory processing disorder,
language processing disorder, non-verbal learning disabilities, visual perceptual/ visual motor
deficit disorder. Furthermore, the various research paper has observed that prevalent signs of
learning disabilities are (i) problems with reading and writing (ii) problems with mathematics (iii)
Attention problem or a child suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (iv) trouble
following directions (v) clumsiness (vi) trouble telling time (vii)trouble staying organized.
Therefore, in such situations, the role of a school and a curriculum play a pivotal role. The primary
focus or objectives of a lesson plan are:
Appointing a group of educators/ instructors or a teaching team who are accepting and
welcoming students with learning disabilities.
Focusing on the strength of an individual student and trying to address the weakness in reading
writing and spelling.
Focusing on learning by doing techniques.
The material required to teach the students must be in the digital medium. The digital medium
focuses on learning at a child own pace. This will probably tackle the problem of insufficient
ability to derive the meaning of new words through phonological and morphological analysis,
immature grammatical knowledge and skill. Secondly, the materials or textbooks in the

curriculum must be picture-based. This will help the child to form a pictorial representation. This
process can be extended with the storytelling method, organizing a narrative expository text Sun,
L., & Wallach, G. P. (2014). Conducting an oral examination rather than undergoing a traditional
writing analysis will help the child with learning and language disability. Lastly, giving a child
necessary breaks in between teaching. This will help the child to focus more on the content. The
child must play with toys such as puzzles, building blocks, toys enhancing critical thinking and
imaginary elements such as soft toys, kitchen utensils, vegetables to solve numerical problems,
mental maths etc. This will help to promote Emotional quotient and the Intelligent quotient in a
child with learning and language disability.
At the final stage, it is essential to develop strategies that focus on multiple forms of
communications.
Communication abilities develop only through motor skills i.e structured physical fitness activities
like aerobic capacity, skill training and co-operation through a variety of team sports.
An effective strategy must translate ideas through drama, music and visual arts. This technique
will succour to express connections between academic subjects
(https://www.churchillstl.org/about/curriculum/).
Last but not the least, keyboarding strategy. Keyboarding is an important element of an overall
curriculum. Because it focuses on ideas rather than the mechanics of writing which will help the
student suffering from dysgraphia- am form of learning disability.
To conclude, it is important to understand that every child is special. The way of learning and
understanding varies from person to person. So demarcating a child with his/her intellectual and
learning disability is not a good practice. The purpose of the article is to develop a curriculum
that focuses on and enhance the strength of a child undergoing through learning disability.
