History of Humans
History is defined as the study of change chronologically. History usually covers aspects
of the human environment. Human society contains various elements to sort. These include
technological, medical, economic, cultural, among other developments. We often hear the phrase
“history repeats itself,” well, that cannot happen since history is a non-living thing. Historians
are people who try to make the events of the past make sense. Often, historians insist on the
importance of the primary sources. However, others (non-historians) get their information from
watching documentaries and digging into the archives for books and journals written by
researchers. It is important to learn history since it helps lighten some info. Garraty has been
teaching history for the last thirty years from the handout provided, yet he has never heard of
Bartolomeo Gomez. However, after some research, he learned that Gomez was Portuguese and
discovered the Hudson River. This document pays attention to two historians, Howard Zinn and
James William Loewen, and how they dealt with various past issues.
Zinn was an American historian as well as a philosopher. He was also a writer who wrote
over twenty history books. He was born in 1922, and he immigrated to the US before world war
1. On the other hand, James William Loewen is also a historian as well as an American
sociologist. He was born in 1942, and his focus of history is on the Native Americans. Native
Americans are also referred to as American Indians. According to the text, Gordon Wood, a

professor of American history, conveys the past and the present using original documents. The
kinds of concrete details that are laid out make history interesting to a ten-year-old child.
Sometimes the Native Americans despised the presence of the African Americans. Hakim, a
recent textbook writer, chooses to concentrate on the various ideas of Samuel and John Adams.
They both believed in the cause of revolution; however, John wanted to make the point that it
must be based on law and not mob justice.
From the text, instead of using “imagine,” we are encouraged to use “suppose.”
Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer who opened a way for the Americans'
colonization and gave the name Indios to the native people. Zinn stated that Columbus was a
butcher, and he much despised the Native Americans. William Loewen says clearly in his book
“Lies My Teacher Told Me about Christopher Columbus” that textbooks omit essential in
Abouttion about Columbus’s trip to the Americans. This book also reveals a corrective image to
the Columbus story, as they are told in history classes. The history textbooks give out wrong
information on Columbus, and now there are echoes on debates over the legacy of Christopher
Columbus.
Slavery is the state of bondage. The conservative groups criticized the references to
America’s traditional heroes as well as slavery. However, African slavery was introduced by the
Europeans in the northern part of America. As much they practiced slavery, they did not do it on
a large scale. They only traded slaved individuals of another tribe in exchange for their tribe. In
his book “A People’s History of the United States Howard Zinn Chapter 9 pp. 171-210,”
Howard Zinn clearly stated his main ideas on slavery and defiance. These ideas included the
prohibition of slavery as per the 13th amendment and the reconstruction of freedom and equality
for African Americans. When William Loewen appeared in the interview on this topic, he
