DEVELOPING NEW SOFTWARE 2
Developing New Software
The Overall Process of Developing New Software
Software development life cycle (SDLC) is the approach that clearly defines the process
of crafting high-quality software, at a low cost in the shortest time possible. The overall process
consists of a well-structured flow of phases to produce well-tested and ready to use the software.
The SDLC is a field of competency applied in system and software engineering. Information
systems provide a guide through planning, creating, testing, and deploying a developed
information software system. From the development to the implementation of the software, the
overall process follows seven stages.
Planning is the first phase in developing new software. Planning involves conducting a
feasibility study to ascertain the need for the new system, through evaluating customers' issues
and potential solutions. It also incorporates an estimation of resources need for the latest
software in terms of cost, time, personnel, and other necessary factors required for its
implementation (Shylesh, 2017). Planning lays bare some of the possible threats and suggests
solutions to overcome them if they occur during the development process. The team prepares a
project plan to determine the process's practicability and how it would be implemented
successfully at a lower risk.
The second stage involves identifying the current specific problems by gathering
information from all stakeholders and programmers through group and one-on-one interviews,
questionnaires, and observation (Shylesh, 2017). This stage aims to collect adequate information
