STUDENT-ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT PROJECT
2
How needs assessment and integrates into/support the business case
For the business case to have a direction, we must know what we are working to
solve. That is why needs assessment is important. The project was created to address
the issue of poor engagement among CPS' alumni and students. Therefore, we must
assess all the facets of poor engagement to craft solutions. We can be able to pin point
all the causes of poor engagement I.e the gaps that exist between the CPS' alumni and
students, therefore, offering a barrier to the engagement between the two. We can
only formulate mitigation measures once we have identified these areas that have
shortcomings. It will enable us to know what is working and what needs to be
changed (Weisberg, 2017).
For example, through the current state assessment, we found out that there exists
no connection between alumni and students; therefore, there is no way for them to
engage and communicate. Following the identification of this gap, we came up with
the suggestion of creating an online platform, e.g., a website where the alumni and
students can engage and communicate with each other. Had we not identified this
need, we would not have formulated a solution to it. Other factors, such as the cost of
creating the platform, will provide a clearer picture of the upfront investment needed.
Therefore, the needs assessment has supported this business case. We also discovered
that there are challenges in obtaining alumni data about their employment and
professional life. Students are unable to know what to expect and how to prepare for
their professional life as such information has not been gathered from the alumni
students. This information is necessary for the students to prepare for their
professional life to become professionally fit, especially in the 21
st
century.
