Dementia Disorder
What Is Dementia?
Dementia refers to a form of memory loss, problem-solving, language, and other thinking
abilities that are so severe that they can interfere with normal daily life. Dementia is an overall
term used to refer to several diseases as it is not a single disease. It covers varieties of medical
conditions with Alzheimer's disease (Honig et al., 2018). Abnormal brain changes cause diseases
under this general term of dementia. Abnormal changes trigger a decline in the skills of thinking,
which are also called cognitive abilities. This triggering is so severe enough to impair daily life
and again functioning independently. This triggering also affects relationships, feelings, and
behavior.
Is Alzheimer A Form Of Dementia?
Alzheimer's is a form of dementia, and it accounts for up to 80 percent of cases.
Alzheimer's disease affects behavior, memory, and thinking. This disorder's symptoms grow
severe with time, and they interfere with a person's daily tasks (Kivipelto et al., 2018). This
disorder is not a part of aging. The most significant risk factor is the increase in age, and most of
the people who suffer from this disorder are above 65 years old. However, the disorder of
Alzheimer's is not a disease for the aged as about 200,000 Americans who fall under the age of
65 have symptoms of the onset of this disorder. The disorder worsens with time as it is a
progressive disease. Due to the condition being a progressive disease, it does not have a
treatment, leading to death.
