What is the topic/purpose of your website?
The purpose of my website is to raise awareness about mental health issues from a sociologist's
perspective. The website will explore how power structures, economic systems, and family
structures aggravate mental illnesses.
What will be the name of your website?
The website’s name will be “Learn to rise.” This name stresses the website’s fundamental goal:
to reduce mental health issues, by educating people on how social and economic factors impact
mental health and what they can do to improve overall mental health among their friends and
family members.
Who is the audience of your website?
The audience for my website will be individuals above 18 years of age. However, families with
mental health patients and policymakers will be the primary audience since they better
understand mental health issues. The website will target these two groups since they have the
potential to positively impact mental health by advocating for the enactment of policies that will
reduce poverty and income inequality, which are both associated with high cases of mental
illnesses.
What is the visual style of your website? (e.g., modern, minimal, vibrant, etc.)? Why?
I will adapt a vibrant visual style for my website. This style will involve combining colors with a
sharp contrast to differentiate information and elements that are more important from those that
are less important. One reason for using this style is to make my website captivating and visually
appealing to my audience. Since the website’s primary goal is to educate people about how
economic and social factors contribute to mental health issues, using a vibrant design will make
it easy for people to identify my website from numerous similar sites.
What website platform will you use (e.g., Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, etc.)?
I will use the Wix platform to create my website since it is easy to use and supports the drag and
drop option. While both WordPress and Squarespace are more robust and have added capabilities
than Wix, they are not appropriate for individuals with no technical knowledge of web design.
Wix will allow me to design and develop my website with minimal effort since I have no
technical knowledge of web design.

Briefly describe what you will write/create for the 6 pages/entries of your website?
About-This page will contain identifying information about “Learn to rise.” Some information
that will be contained on this page includes website history, when and why the website was
created, and the motivation behind the creation. This section will also contain information on the
website’s target audience, its primary goal, and key societal issue it intends to address.
Links- This page will contain links to some useful resources which can be used to understand
causes and solutions to mental illnesses. Some sources that will be on this page include:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5880535/
https://www.therecoveryvillage.com/mental-health/related/mental-illness-and-poverty/

Mental illness from a sociologist perspective
This page will describe mental health issues from a sociological perspective. Some issues that
will be discussed include the interaction between poverty and mental illness and power structures
and mental illnesses within marginalized groups. The section will also discuss how family
dysfunction impacts mental health.
"Critique Article"-This section will critique the article “Happiness depends on health and
friends, not money, says new study” published by Phillip Inman in the guardian. The main
argument in this piece is that people don’t need money to be happy. I will refute this argument
by showing that being poor and unable to meet daily needs is associated with increased chances
of mental health. I will also show that, on its own, social support cannot improve an individual's
mental health status.
"Non-written Element,"
This image describes the relationship between social factors and mental health. The image will
be used to support the argument that mental illness can only be addressed if the underlying social
and economic causes are addressed.
