DISCUSSION QUESTION 2
Homeland Security Assessments
Terrorism is one of the security problems countries are facing in this era. Terrorism is
described as the unlawful usage of violence against a country’s citizens for political or religious
reasons (Fisher, 2016). Most people have died as a result of terrorist attacks from various cities
and towns in the world. Examples of these cities and towns are Boston, Nairobi, San Bernardino,
California, among many others. As the threats continue to rise, local authorities and communities
need to look at their preparedness against these attacks. As a result of this, communities and local
authorities need to ensure they are putting all the necessary actions required to prepare them for a
terrorist attack.
There are different measures and initiatives that the local communities and the local
authorities need to put in place to prepare themselves for terrorist attacks. The communities need

need to have an evacuation plan. For example, if it happens in a business enterprise, there is a
need to evacuate to avoid damages and loss of lives or a hostage situation. People also need to be
familiar with their environment/surroundings to be sure of a place where you could run to for
safety or identify possible areas for attackers to come in from.
There is also a need to establish an emergency action plan, especially in businesses, since
it is an essential tool to ensure all your employees or visitors and the business are safe. The
community can also ensure they understand some of the technology's malicious capabilities
(Fisher, 2016). Technology can help in fighting terrorism and at the same time can help the
terrorists with their attacks; because of this, the community, through the local security, need to
ensure the safe use of technology and get familiar with potential threats that come with
technology. People also need to collaborate with the local authorities to ensure solidarity
