Robojet Car Wash Case Study
Answer-1: According to case study, Drew and Caroline wants to buy an automated car wash
franchise as a family business and they wanted to provide premium car washing experience by
the help of automation to the customers. For buying an automated car wash, they need to
identify the location as in this business location is key factor because if the location is not near to
the city or crowded area then they go through a huge loss because customer is unable to reach
their place. They need to evaluate the economics of the business with the of break-even analysis.
As Drew is a mechanical engineer, he has knowledge regarding the technology and equipment
needed to be used in the car wash and his wife Caroline is an accountant, so she has some
knowledge regarding the costs related to this business and how much they need to invest in this
business to gain profit. Their mission is to make a profit by implementing the technology in the
car washing with that they also want to provide different service like detailing vehicles, dent
repair, and windshield repair.
Answer-2: In past car washing is very costly and involves many people to wash one car but
introduction of technology to this industry it changes the whole game of washing cars and it uses
the automatic brushes and other automatic devices to wash car. Therefore, it reduced the
number of persons needed for washing one car which reduce the labour cost. Because of
automation we depend on the machines which replaces the work of human to wash a car. I show
issue regarding the break down of machine then the whole process of car washing is stopped,
and they face loss due to malfunction of machine. The role of operation is resolving the problem
of machine breakdown and to avoid it they do maintenance work of machine time to time, and
regularly test and review the machine. With the help of break-even analysis, we can determine
at what point we will earn profit or cover the costs we invested. If we reduced the variable cost
or increased the average price, then the contribution margin surely increasing that means break
even point is less therefore company will earn profit. As mention in this case that, automation in
car wash has issues of machine breakdown which increases the variable cost as a result company
suffer loss. To gain profit we need to reduce the machine breakdown by maintaining and regular
checks so by this way we can reduce the variable cost and increases the profit ratio. If we increase
the average price of wash, then quality of wash should be high enough then competitors so that
customers attract towards us.
Answer-3: If we start any new business first thing, we must need to make an action plan for the
business and here Drew and Caroline want to buy a car washing franchise so as an operations
manager, I need to develop business plan, strategy and evaluate that the business is profitable
or not. Selection of location is a major part of this business as it is depending on density of
customers. Therefore, we select the prime location where the car wash station is not available,
and crowd is more. Next, it is mention in the case that breakdown of machine cost many car wash
owner loss due to malfunction of machine so as an operations manager, we need to find the best
machine and machine’s parts are easily available if it is broken. We should see the warranty
period of machine and insurance of the machine to cover our loss if sudden breakdown is
happened.
