AMENDMENTS 2
Journal: Sixth and Eighth Amendments
The Sixth and Eighth Amendments are among the most groundbreaking amendments in
the criminal justice system of the United States. They play a critical role in shaping the nature
and procedures of criminal prosecutions, as well as fines and bails subjected to suspects. In my
career, in line with the Sixth Amendment, in the event that I find myself in the wrong side of the
law, I will know that I have the right to speedy trial by an impartial jury, in the district where I
will have committed the offense (National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, 2019). I
will also know that I have the right to be informed of the exact nature of the accusation,
including the reasons why I am being accused (Ossei-Owusu, S. (2018).. That way, I will have a
good ground of preparing to defend myself on the basis of the reasons for being accused. I can
also obtain witnesses to defend me depending on the nature of the accusation, and I can also
secure assistance of counsel if need be.
From the standpoint of the Eighth Amendment, I will also know that I will have the right
not to be subjected to unfair punishment even after I have been found guilty of the offense. The

what offense (Lerner, 2019). The same should also apply to any fines that will be needed. I
cannot be fined a fine that is way beyond what people who have committed the same offense are
supposed to be fined as that would be unfair and discriminatory.
Overall, these two amendments are very important to me in my workplace. As shown in
the two videos, the absence of such laws hindering unfair criminal justice procedures can
jeopardize the flow of justice in any jurisdiction. Judges and other criminal justice personnel are
